The team goes Reverse Bungy!
by Teng Lingying

24 November 2009

A scream cuts through the air, and everything seems to spin out of control. The wind whistles, and the grey sky passes beneath my feet as the world flips over a second time. Jon, our publisher, suddenly starts laughing and I let out a whoop of joy as we hurtle toward the ground, only to be pulled back up by a pair of elastic cables. Therese, the editor, doesn’t stop screaming.

It’s the G-MAX Reverse Bungy at Clarke Quay, beside the Coleman Bridge. The courageous team from Singapore Travelholic have decided to lend ourselves to a greater good – to give you the pleasure of a 'sneak preview' to the whole experience.

Strapped in by the G-MAX staff, we have already emptied our pockets, removed our glasses, and anything that might fall off while flying through the air at 200 kilometres an hour. For the ladies, that means removal of your sandals too.

The friendly staff offers to give us a countdown, and we decide to go on three.

“Okay.” He smiles at us, “three.” And off we fly to oblivion.

At that moment I felt lucky I did not have any heart problems. Otherwise, I think I may not have survived.

The GX-5 Xtreme Swing is next, and it offers a different type of adrenaline rush. It pulls us to a height of 12 storeys and once there, the release lever has to be pushed by the ‘pilot’. We now face the ground, with only the harness to keep us from dropping off. Hanging there is nerve-wrecking, and once the light turns green, I quickly release us from our 40-metre hell.

We swing straight toward the Singapore River, and this moment is the reason why, I think, we pay $45 a person. It is an adrenaline rush, but more than that, we now have an incredible story to tell our friends and family.

These rides are not for the faint-of-heart, but I do believe that a healthy injection of fun every now and then is an essential part of living. Moreover, it’s only $60 for both rides.

Make a trip down anytime between 1pm and 1am daily for a taste of life, or you can watch us have our fix on Facebook.

Special prices are available for students with valid identification at $30 (for a single ride) and $50 (for both rides) per person.
