Singapore icon up for sale

SINGAPORE recently displayed entrepreneurial spirit again when the Land Transport Authority (LTA) launched a range of collectibles modelled after the city's iconic Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries.
For at least a decade, these powerful gantries have minimised traffic congestion through an automatic fee deduction (similar to a toll fee) when cars drive through them in busy districts.
The collectibles on sale exclusively at the Land Transport Gallery includes mugs that reveal the words “In Operation” on the gantry when hot water is poured in, coasters depicting “Famous Arches From Around The World” such as Paris’ Arch De Triomphe, Berlins’ Bradenburg Gate and of course – Singapore’s ERP Gantry – as well as gantry clocks.
While it remains to be seen exactly how tourists will go crazy over these “cute” souvenirs, the idea is nevertheless a good cause since the net proceeds will go to the LTA Care Fund that supports transport needs of the disabled.
In case you are interested: The Land Transport Gallery at 1 Hampshire Road is open from Tuesdays to Sundays (closed on Mondays and Public Holidays), 9am-5pm. Advanced booking is required for all tours. Visit LTA's website for the latest details.
