27 June 2012

Located in the Novena area, a 5-minute drive away from Orchard Road, is a hotel that incorporates nature into its design so as to be a pocket of respite and tranquility in fast-paced Singapore.

Oasia Hotel Singapore, the flagship property of Far East Hospitality’s latest hotel brand Oasia, opened in October last year in the heart of Singapore’s new medical hub.

Its name – a portmanteau of “oasis” and “Asia” – is an apt reflection of its aim of creating a warm and cosy place for guests, where they “will be truly looked after, feel rejuvenated and relaxed” according to Raphael Saw, Chief Operating Officer of Far East Organization’s Hospitality Business Group.

To create an innovative and inspired space, the hotel hired local architectural firm DP Architects to work on the exterior of the building, and award-winning Japanese architect-cum-designer Takashi Sugimoto from Super Potato together with local firm Ong & Ong for the interior. Both interior design firms are known for their cutting-edge designs and liberal use of natural elements.

The hotel’s raw, industrial theme is first encountered in its lobby which features high ceilings, raw wooden seats, stone walls and an intricate recycled wood structure backdrop at the check-in area. The stone walls were dug out from the depths of a mountain range in central Thailand while the antique wood walls were recovered from local renovation works.

Lap pool and Jacuzzi at The Living Room

The hotel’s “leisure oasis” on the eight floor, where its fitness centre and open-air pool are located, is a tranquil terrace featuring bamboos and stones. Just across the swimming pool is a green lung – the perfect spot for yoga sun salutations, cocktail parties, wedding solemnisations or just to chill out.

The Living Room

The hotel’s 24-hour club lounge, The Living Room, on the 22nd floor is a breezy high-ceiling space framed by floor-to-ceiling glass walls to allow in lots of natural light and reveal spectacular views; wooden beams from an abandoned house in China’s Hainan Island; modern light fixtures suspended from the ceiling; glassware décor; industrial style wooden bench tables; and casual sofas.

Reserved for the exclusive use of Oasia Club guests, the club lounge provides check-in services along with free Wi-Fi service. It also serves a daily breakfast spread as well as complimentary canapés and cocktails from 6pm to 8pm daily. Drinkswise, guests can choose from five different beers, Rosemount Shiraz and Chardonnay, and a selection of soft drinks and juices.

To pamper Oasia Club guests, especially coffee fans, the hotel recently installed a professional Club La Spaziale Espresso machine and teamed up with local artisan roaster Coffee Culture to serve up the perfect cup of coffee made from a unique blend of South American and Southeast Asian single-origin beans which are roasted on demand and ground to order. Every cup of coffee is accompanied by a Neapolitan chocolate square from French chocolatier house Monbana. A range of hot chocolate drinks as well as chocolate treats from Monbana are also available. A special treat for the kids is steamed milk flavoured with hazelnut.

Tea drinkers are not left out as the club lounge serves a range of premium loose teas from Naturalis including the caffeine-free Singapore Sling Tea which captures the refreshing taste of the popular national cocktail, Dublin Malt, Honeymelon and Jasmine Yin Hao

Enjoy the drinks in air-conditioned comfort at the club lounge or outdoors amidst the breeze on comfy sofas or loungers while taking in the breathtaking views of the city skyline.

When you’ve had your fill of food and drinks at the club lounge, work it off at the 20-metre lap pool, unwind at the Jacuzzi or chill out on the sun deck just a few steps away from the lounge.

The hotel’s design theme continues into the brown-hued basement library cum boardroom and meeting rooms which are peppered with homey ornaments and collectibles like bird cages, vases, old cameras, mini faux potted plants, aeroplane models and lifestyle coffee table books.

 Zaffron

Its chic all-day dining restaurant Zaffron, which serves an international a la carte menu as well as buffets, features time-washed residue metal, wooden block walls, granite and wooden floors, and glass shelves lined with glassware.

 Deluxe Room

The hotel’s 428 rooms sport a soothing, earthy colour palette dominated by browns and beiges punctuated by a multi-coloured striped carpet in the Deluxe Rooms and an orange, red and gold striped designer chair in the Oasia Club Rooms.

 Club Room

The handiwork of Sugimoto, the four Oasia Club Suites and 100 Oasia Club Rooms combine naturally sculpted granite and natural wood to soothe the senses. Club Rooms feature a modern, industrial light fixture over the writing desk that can be raised and lowered using a pulley system while Club Suites have a special wood wall that separates the living room from the bedroom.

 Club Suite bathroom

Suites and Club Rooms are equipped with a Nespresso machine, complimentary mini bar and LED television. Bathrooms have bathtubs (naturally sculpted designer versions in the Suites) and rain shower, and are stocked with bath amenities from Thann.

Deluxe Rooms have a bay window sofa that can be turned into a third bed and a Martello coffee machine.
