Singapore’s Guardian of Prosperity
Get up close and personal with the biggest replica of Singapore’s most well-known icon – the Sentosa Merlion.
The 37m tall mythical creature with a lion’s head, a fish’s body and bagua-shaped scales is Singapore’s Guardian of Prosperity, which personifies the country’s history as an important seaport.
The lion head depicts the folklore of Prince Sang Nila Utama’s discovery of lion (singa) and city (pura), while the fish tail symbolises the fishing village of ‘Temasek”, also known as “sea town” in Javanese.
The Sentosa Merlion is the only Merlion in Singapore where you can enter its head and mouth to enjoy an aerial view of Sentosa Island and the Singapore skyline, as well as learn about the urban myth and uncover treasures inside its body.
Recently revamped, the Sentosa Merlion now offers a refreshed experience through five zones. There’s also a new interactive web game to entertain and educate (through puzzles and trivia on the Merlion) the young ones (and the young at heart!). The game can be downloaded for free at https://buildxcape.com.
